San Francisco Center for the Book, September – December, 2014
I published a memoir of our seventeen years in France, restoring an old watermill, but also hosting artists, French and American. When asked to do an installation at the San Francisco Center for the Book, a place that teaches all aspects of artists’ book-arts, I decided to make a giant walk-through book.
To reflect the heart of the experience in France, which was our rapport with guest artists, I invited seventeen other artists to contribute the pages of the book, and my husband, Mike, to form the spine, holding together the whole, as he always did at La Pilande Basse. Each of the artists created original work that related to his or her experience at the mill, and each page tells its own story.
