Permutations Coming to Sonoma Valley Museum – January, 2019

August 25, 2019 by Judy O'Shea

Permutations

The viewer starts the journey by navigating through a hanging, ethereal, deck of cards, the suits themselves watermarks in hand-cast paper. There are 52 cards, to encounter by chance. Near the back of the deck, things start to change, turning from white to blue to brown, landing the observer in a salle d’attente with peculiar baroque costume elements backlit by tapestries of warm browns and azurian blues. One rough, yet ruffled, turns slowly in front of the other – stately and arrogant. Both are attended by curious courtiers. The spectator is invited to find the equation: the balance between the opposites, the message and the medium, hard versus soft, before returning back through the maze. read more

POINT OF CONVERGENCE

November 8, 2015 by Judy O'Shea

Point of Convergence was developed to celebrate the researchers at the Buck Institute for Research on Aging. While the I. M. Pei building provides an immense, inspirational setting, with soaring skylights, moving shadows, and obtuse angles in every room, it pales in comparison to the importance of the research being done in its laboratories. In fact, the building could fall and the trees could move back in, but the work of the scientists would live on.

Water Paper Stone: Letters From a Mill in France

March 28, 2014 by Judy O'Shea

SAN FRANCISCO, APRIL 16, 2014—Seduced by the romantic notion of living a carefree life abroad, many people dream of moving to the South of France to eat, drink, and explore the countryside. Most people don’t then decide to move to France, revitalize a forgotten mill, host an artist-in-residence program, and start a new career. But that is exactly what Judy O’Shea, a San Francisco installation artist, did with her husband, Mike. Now, O’Shea has collected her vivid journal entries and letters to her beloved sister, Linda, into Water Paper Stone, a memoir that immerses the reader in life in the heartland of France. Water Paper Stone: Letters from a Mill in France is now available for purchase on Amazon.com in softcover for $17.95 and as an e-book with more than 100 photos for $13.95.
